once
when i was young
the relentless ocean waves pushed me into the sand
pressed their unfathomable weight on my small frame
and held me
yet
barely phased
i got up
shook my water logged ears out
and ran laughing back into the ocean
but
the waves are different now
they’ve morphed into something harder to withstand
now when they push me down
i silently stay
