face to face with my worst fear
the squealing of the tires and the
growl of the engine
the sleek armored body
creeping up on me in the dark
hiding what’s inside
I spun around
hearing the screech of a reckless turn
in panic
watching the giant approach
the moment I feared
the quick bang that could end me
right there
but this time they actually are
coming for me
the door swings wide
as the monster pulls up near
it’s mouth opening
to swallow me whole
get in the car you maggot
a sneering face shouts
before the monster releases a
maniacal roar
and speeds into the night
If only it had been maggot
an m turns to an f and then
that’s what I become
but i'd like to be a
small squirming larva
with a simple brain
that can’t fear
the monsters of the dark
